Love All Bodies Show at the Toronto Etsy Street Team Gallery - Call for Artists

August 19 - 31, 2017: Opening August 19, 6 - 9 pm

Toronto Etsy Street Team gallery 906 Queen St W, Toronto

The Toronto Etsy Street Team gallery is hosting a group art about embracing human bodies in all their variety and positive body image for all.

This exhibition aims to bring together a diverse and inclusive representation of all bodies through intersectional, body positive, progressive, and political work. ALL bodies deserve space and positive representation. We aim to create space to represent people that are particularly subject to systems of oppression and discrimination because their bodies are different. We highly encourage all POC, genderqueer, female identifying, trans persons, those with disabilities and queer people, to submit. Let us create new conversations about what it means to love our bodies specifically in a society where most are taught not too.  (guest curator Rebecca Rose Vaughan)

TO APPLY CLICK HERE! Deadline Extended to August 5!

Vendor call: Pop-up at the Barns

We’re Back!
The Pop-up at the Barns community marketplace is back for 2017. This is a market that runs concurrently with The Stop Farmers Market at Artscape Wychwood Barns. Our market is designed to combine a higher-end, curated selection of Businesses offering a wide range of home and lifestyle products and services. We know that driving traffic into a traditional Brick & Mortar store can be trying, so why not position yourself where the traffic already is.

As we all know, Artscape Wychwood Barns has become the beacon, center point for the Hillcrest Village, Humewood, Wychwood, Cedarvale and other St. Clair West Area communities. With a large number of area and vicinity residents visiting the flourishing Stop Farmers Market each week, it has created an exciting opportunity. The Farmers Market moves outside during late spring and Summer opening up the space inside. The market will run concurrently with the Saturday Farmers Market on June 17th and August 5th.

This initiative has provided an excellent way to support our community in more than just adding a marketplace, but through this venture, The Wychwood Barns Community Association (WBCA) will benefit, as the proceeds will help to support the many family programs that take place at the Barns and the Volunteers that make it possible.

So, if you have an existing retail business or seek a strong market, or you follow market opportunities, this is the perfect place to market your products or services.

With only 60 Spaces available, it is an ideal summer investment.

An UnNatural History- October 2017 exhibit

An unNatural History
Exhibit Oct 5-Nov 2
Opening Reception Halloween Party- Friday, Oct 13

Call for submissions
Deadline:
T.E.S.T Gallery Space, 906 Queen St West, Toronto

Natural history is the research and study of organisms including animals, fungi and plants in their environment, leaning more towards observational than experimental methods of study. It encompasses scientific research but is not limited to it. Grouped among the natural sciences, natural history is the systematic study of any category of natural objects or organisms.[1]

"Natural history focuses on where organisms are and what they do in their environment, including interactions with other organisms. It encompasses changes in internal states insofar as they pertain to what organisms do" [2]

An unNatural History draws inspiration from a fascination with the artistic representation of natural history and the creation of fictitious places in literature.
A documentation of something newly discovered; but for instance, whereas it is claimed that some of Ernst Haeckel's embryo drawings of 1874 were fabricated, for example, an UnNatural History starts in the opposite direction, from a conjecture of the imagination grounded with elements that - although bizarre - are quite real, to try to give it verisimilitude.

Artists are asked to explore the past and future through: Hybrid organisms, fictional fungi/botany, distant imaginary worlds, unusual geometry, otherworldly life, geography, animals, minerals, astronomy, genetic mutations. Tell us their story, what they do in their environment, including interactions with other organisms if applicable.

Teyler's Natural History museum in Haarlem, NL is the only authentic 18th century museum interior in the world. The museum rooms are still illuminated by daylight. In wintry weather, it can get extremely dark. The entire experience conveys the atmosphere of a museum from bygone times! Similar to Teyler's museum, An unNatural History will create a moody, museum atmosphere for guests to explore.

Selected artists will be notified by email and a exhibition fee of $50 will be charged. Artists will be sent a contract and given times/dates to drop-off works. Artists must cover any of their shipping costs. The gallery takes a 15% commission on sales.

Artist wall/hanging space: 3' wide (horizontal) x 5' length (vertical).
Floor/install space: 4'x4' square
Art and fine-craft accepted: sculpture, visual art, metal, glass, ceramic, print, textile, wood, video, interactive

Please email any questions you may have concerning the exhibition or submission process to: nanotopia@me.com
