Etsy: Made in Canada meets the One of a Kind Show

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

Made in Canada got you bitten by the craft show bug?

Well get ready, because Etsy and One of a Kind are partnering up for a third year to present the Etsy section at the Spring One of a Kind Show!

This weekend, One of a Kind will be scouting shows far and wide to meet some of the talented Etsy sellers Canada has to offer, and we’re asking shoppers at the Toronto shows to give us a hand by nominating a Made in Canada seller they think is truly One of a Kind.

The seller with the most votes will receive a free spot in the Etsy section at the Spring 2015 show, running from March 25-29. We’ll also give one of the winning nominators a One of a Kind prize pack and ten lucky voters will receive 2 tickets to our Spring 2015 Show.

So, stop by our contest booth at the OCAD or the MaRS building and pick up some ballots. Encourage shoppers to vote for you and it could be your ticket to One of a Kind!

For more information, visit
Got questions or you would like more info on the section? Join us at Etsy Canada headquarters on October 1st, from 5-7, for a meet and greet and the lowdown on participating in the Etsy section at the Spring Show. RSVP here.

Meet the Organizers

ele-author-photoEle Willoughby, Toronto, Ontario
Ele is the Captain of the 800-member Toronto Etsy Street Team, which will be co-hosting a 120-vendor market with the 416 Hustler Team at Toronto’s MaRS building.
I’m Ele Willoughby (also known as minouette). I’m a printmaker and a marine geophysicist; I make fine-art prints on paper, hand-printed textiles, and interactive multimedia artwork. While I’ve had the great privilege of visiting much of Canada, living in a few different provinces, and traveling to many other countries, I’ve got to say that the creative community in Toronto is exceptionally active and engaged. There’s a lot of unexpected collaboration going on: your favorite local designer can recommend her favorite soap maker, the jewelers know the bookbinders, and the printmakers are taking quilting classes. There is so much Canadian talent on Etsy that’s already being exported to the world — now it’s time to let the rest of Canada know about it!

Call for Clothing Designers, UTSC The Marketing Group Charity Fashion Show

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

The Marketing Group at the University of Toronto Scarborough are hosting their annual charity fashion show and we are showcasing clothing from Toronto-based designers. They want to attract local designers or boutiques who would be interested in featuring their clothes on their runway!

Date: November 18th
Place: University of Toronto Scarborough Campus at 1265 Military Trail, Toronto, ON M1C 1A4
How to apply: Email with pictures or a website and description of the clothing they intend to feature at the fashion show. Number of outfits can range from 5-15.
Deadline: Before October 20th
Note: A contract will be created for us to take full responsibility of the clothing and to return them in their original condition.

This fashion show is a great opportunity to increase brand exposure as we will be marketing the event to UTSC’s student body of over 11,000 people in addition to the two other UofT campuses. Overall, the event is a great way to increase exposure  as well as giving back to the community as all proceeds will be donated to the SickKids Foundation. Post-fashion show, we are organizing a Lookbook campaign for all the outfits at the fashion show to be viewed on our website from students at all three UofT campuses.

Check out last year's Lookbook here.
